Brian Magoffin Named Director of Sports Communications
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Brian Magoffin’05 has been named the director of sports communications, effective immediately. Magoffin is responsible for all aspects of media and sports information relating to the 26 intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports teams at the College.
Magoffin has been a member of the athletics staff at Springfield College since 2007, serving as the assistant director of sports communications until being promoted to interim director of sports communications for the College in July 2012.
Magoffin’s responsibilities have included website maintenance and redesign, designing recruiting publications, updating and creating all social media elements involving Pride Athletics, and overseeing game-day functions with the department. Magoffin assisted with the unveiling of Inside the Pride in 2013, a weekly five-minute Web show dedicated to promoting Pride Athletics.
Magoffin has served as one of the main sports information representatives at numerous championships held at Springfield College, including the inaugural National Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Division III Volleyball National Championship in 2012.
In June 2012, Magoffin was named one of only two finalists for the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Grant Burger Media Award in the sports information category.
Magoffin has used traditional forms of print, radio, and television media to promote Pride Athletic events, as well as live streaming video for Springfield College home matches through the institution’s website. In addition, he has enhanced coverage by coordinating video highlights and postgame interviews throughout the years.
Prior to his tenure at Springfield College, Magoffin spent two years as assistant director of athletic communications at Stony Brook University, where he led the athletic department’s Web site redesign in 2006.
Magoffin earned a bachelor’s degree in sport management from Springfield College in 2005.
He assumes responsibilities following the retirement of Stephen Raczynski, former director of sports communications, who worked in the Springfield College Athletics Department from 2006 through 2013.
