A Family Affair
My relationship with the YMCA began when I was 14 years old and a new YMCA branch had opened in my area, the YMCA of Greater Rochester. My father, sister, and brother all became lifeguards at this new branch, and our family membership enabled me to spend a lot of my time there as a teenager. When I wasn’t able to be there, I’d spend time researching the history of the YMCA and learning as much as I could about the organization and its mission. I quickly fell in love with the YMCA’s purpose, and by the time I reached 16, I knew I wanted to have a career within the Y.
I couldn’t imagine a better career than one that allows you to work toward strengthening communities and creating positive change.
President of the YMCA of Greater Rochester George Rommell was influential in my decision to pursue a career within the YMCA. He too studied at Springfield College and helped to make me aware of the YMCA Professional Studies Program. He has always supported my dream of becoming a Y professional, and continues to mentor and guide me as
I work toward completing my degree and fulfilling my dream.
