Adventure Camp is designed for campers who are eager for a challenge! Campers ages 14 to 16 have the opportunity to help build their adventure. With the support of the Camp Massasoit staff, campers will help choose, plan, and implement their two weeks of fun! The first week of each session will be spent preparing for their trip, which takes place Monday through Friday of the second week. The second week of Adventure Camp is all off-site, in campgrounds around the areas where their outdoor adventures will take place. A more detailed itinerary will be sent home during the first few days of the session your child is enrolled in. Adventure Camp is open to 12 campers per session, and space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Camp Massasoit will provide the “technical” equipment required for all trips. Adventure campers should be in relatively healthy condition and be able to handle the physical rigors inherent in the proposed activities; this might include, but is not limited to the following: carrying a 40-pound backpack for four to six miles a day over uneven ground, canoeing up to 15 miles a day, and lifting heavy objects.
Camp runs Monday through Friday, with the day beginning at 8:15 a.m. and ending with camper pick-up at 4:15 p.m. Adventure Camp may have some trips that begin earlier and return later during the first week; if this occurs you will be informed prior to their off-site adventure. Camp Massasoit also provides optional early and late care services at no additional cost. Early care begins at 7:30 a.m., and late care extends to 5:15 p.m. Adventure campers will depart Camp Massasoit on Monday morning of the second week and will return around mid-day on Friday. Campers are required to bring their own snacks and lunches during the first week of camp, but lunchtime milk and refrigeration is provided. Campers will bring their lunch on the Monday of the second week, but following that meal food is provided for the remainder of the week.
NEW ENGLAND EXPLORERSession 1: June 24 - July 5
Camp will be held on July 4
During this session, campers will spend the week exploring, through adventure activity, the diversity of the New England landscape. Adventures may include white-water rafting, rock climbing, hiking, biking, and kayaking. If this is your camper’s first session in Adventure Camp, this is a great trip for them!
CANOEINGSession 2: July 8 - July 19
Adventure campers will learn the ins and outs of a week-long canoe trip. They will spend five days and four nights canoeing along a scenic New England river. Campers can look forward to learning everything there is to know about paddling! All campers should feel comfortable in the water and will be tested in their swimming abilities during the first week of the session.
ROCK CLIMBINGSession 3: July 22 - August 2
This session will cover basic climbing skills including knots, belaying, and technique. Campers will spend the second week exploring a variety of rock-climbing locations. These locations will offer an option of climbing difficulties, from beginner to advanced. This is a great trip for all adventure campers interested in rock climbing!
NEW ENGLAND EXPLORER 2Session 4: August 5 - August 16
Back by popular demand, we are running it twice! This has been such a successful and requested trip that we are offering two sessions of the New England Explorer. For campers who are thinking about doing both, each trip will be unique!
