87th Annual Stepping Up Day 2013
Springfield College recently hosted their 87th annual Stepping Up Day on the Richard B. Flynn Campus Union Patio.
The ceremony consists of the swearing in of the student government president, swearing in of the student trustee, swearing in of class presidents, and the official stepping up ceremony.
The annual Student Humanics Award, the Lawrence Handy Prize, and the Frank Stanley Beveridge Award were presented to the 2013 winners.
Stepping Up Day was introduced at Springfield College in the spring of 1926 replacing the old “Decapitation Day exercises, a day when freshmen were allowed to remove their beanies.
With Stepping Up Day, freshmen took a step up, sophomores became juniors, juniors became seniors, and seniors became alumni.
At the close of the program, freshmen were given their first official chance to walk over Senior Walk.
