Updated October 13, 2012
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Springfield College hosted the 103rd gymnastics exhibition show, Viva Las Vegas, on Friday, Oct. 12, and again on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Blake Arena.
“The gymnastics show is one of the many traditional events at Springfield College and the students put on a great show,” said Springfield College Men’s Gymnastics Head Coach Steve Posner. “It featured a variety of gymnastics, acrobatics, song and dance.”
More than 100 participants took part in the show including All-America and champion gymnasts from the men’s and women’s gymnastics teams and student dancers. Individuals performed a full range of gymnastic feats and dramatic special events to music from recent decades.
“Throughout the performance, we took the audience on a tour of Las Vegas, visiting many of the hotels and famous sites,” said Springfield College Women’s Gymnastics Head Coach Cheryl Raymond. “Individuals who attended saw many Las Vegas landmarks featured like the Luxor Hotel, Treasure Island, and The Venetian, just to name a few of the highlights.”
Along with the many gymnastic and dance numbers, the dramatic finale of the show continued to honor Springfield College tradition with the tableaux; living statuaries by gymnasts in metallic body paint. The theme of this year’s tableaux was a salute to the athletes of the 2012 Summer Olympics, which took place in London, England.
