Confused about the research process? Need a refresher on a specific topic? The following interactive tutorials can help. Note: Most tutorials require a free program called Adobe Flash player in order to watch them.

Start with Searchpath from Babson Library. Searchpath is an online self-paced tutorial that can help you improve your library and research skills. There are five modules:

Each module takes between 15 to 20 minutes to complete. You can either watch each one in order or mix and match. It's up to you! (Last updated: 2009)

Understanding Web Addresses, Using Search Engines, and Interpreting Results: from Babson Library. How much do you really know about using search engines and reading your results? Test yourself with this updated tutorial. Run time: 8 minutes, plus quiz time. Created: 2/2007.

Using Subject Directories & Evaluating Websites: from Babson Library. When would you use a subject directory on the web? And how can you tell if that website is going to meet your prof’s approval? Run time: 5 minutes, 30 seconds. Created: 2/2007.

RefWorks Tutorial: from the makers of RefWorks. Learn how to set up a RefWorks account, then zap references from library databases straight into your account, format them, and generate a bibliography with just a few clicks. Pick from 15 sections, which can take anywhere from 45 seconds to eight minutes to watch. (Last reviewed: 8/2006)

Finding Demographic Information in the US Census Website: from Babson Library. Need US population information? Learn how American Factfinder can get you characteristics of people in your town—even how much people pay for rent! Run time: about 6.5 minutes. (Created 8/2006)

Finding Tests and Measurements in Psychology: from Babson Library. Learn how to locate psychological tests, measurements, and test reviews. Use print sources, web resources, and the Mental Measurements database. Run time: 5.5 minutes. (Created 8/2006)

ebrary Quickstart Guide: from the makers of ebrary. Learn how to use the ebrary Reader, which allows you to search, read, highlight, cite, and add bookmarks to a wide selection of electronic books.

Setting Up Search & Journal Alerts in EBSCO (advanced): from EBSCO. Set up email alerts for when new articles appear in your area of interest, or sign up to receive tables of contents for your favorite journals. 3 minutes. You Quote It, You Note It: An excellent, fun tutorial on how to cite your sources appropriately and avoid plagiarism. Learning these techniques are fundamental to making fair use of others' research. (Produced by Vaughan Memorial Library, Acadia University)
