Physical Therapy Clinical Education
The clinical education you undergo is designed to parallel and enrich coursework and also provide you with direct application in clinical practice. Springfield College has contracts with over 450 clinical sites throughout the Northeast, Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Multiple sites in the greater Springfield area are used for the part-time experiences as well.
- Part-time integrated clinical experiences occur first, offering an early guided exposure to patient management. You will complete four of these while taking classes and learning the clinical skills for patient management. These integrated clinical experiences are through area physical therapy practice settings and offer the student the opportunity to work in a variety of clinical settings such as specialty clinics, acute care, outpatient clinics, and long term settings.
- Three, full-time 10 week clinical education experiences, 40 hours per week, are included in the program’s curriculum. These are in the third year of the DPT curriculum and follow the entry level courses, allowing the student to be well prepared for patient management.
The idea is to offer you the greatest number of opportunities for you in which to work. Preparation is rigorous and professionalism is stressed throughout the clinical experiences.
The world awaits
Equipped with a professional degree and eligibility to apply for state licensure, the Springfield College-trained physical therapist finds many doors open and a myriad of paths to later clinical specialization. Whether electing to practice in a hospital, nursing home, assisted-living facility, hospice, public school, home healthcare setting, wellness, prevention, or rehabilitation center, the newly graduated physical therapist is fully prepared to meet an ever-growing need and demand for innovative healthcare.
Springfield College physical therapy graduates consistently report success in their employment after graduation. Alumni are, or have been, employed at the clinical sites mentioned above, as well as hundreds of other sites across the USA and around the world. As a result, graduates of Springfield College can rely on a far-reaching and accessible network of alumni strategically connected to all aspects of physical therapy.
