Physical Therapy Program at Springfield College
As a Springfield College-trained physical therapist you'll find immediate career opportunities, not to mention your choice of paths to further specialization in many exciting areas of clinical practice. You'll be well equipped with both a professional degree and eligibility to apply for a state license. Doors will open to you in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, hospices, public schools, home health-care facilities, and in wellness, prevention, or rehabilitation centers. You'll meet a continuing demand for innovative physical therapists.
There are two paths to the physical therapy program at Springfield College - entry as a freshman to the undergraduate Bachelor of Science program with advancement to the DPT program, or as a graduate applicant directly into the DPT program. Students in the physical therapy graduate program are awarded an entry-level clinical doctorate degree, DPT. The inaugural Doctor of Physical Therapy class entered the College as freshmen in the Fall of 2005, and the first entry-level doctorate degrees will be awarded in 2011.
The Physical Therapy Program at Springfield College is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).* Coursework in physical therapy enables students to develop advanced problem-solving skills in examination, program planning, and treatment of those who need physical therapy services.
Graduates possess a broad knowledge in the science and practice of physical therapy, as well as a competency in administration and research. In addition, students have the opportunity for advanced study in selected areas of physical therapy.
Summer 2009 information sessions have been scheduled for July 10, 17, and 24; and you can register for one of these through the Admissions Office. For more information about the physical therapy major, contact Dr. Linda Tsoumas, Chair of the Physical Therapy Department Admissions Committee at (413) 748-3590, or the Admissions Office at (800) 343-1257.
