Physician Assistant Program at Springfield College
The Springfield College Physician Assistant (PA) program educates primary care physician assistants eligible for employment in a wide variety of medical settings and specialties.This is a 27-month graduate program which awards a master of science in physician assistant studies. There are two different entry points to the program.
- Five-year track: The student enters Springfield College as a freshman, and in five years, earns a bachelor of science in health science and completes the master’s-level PA program. The student enters the professional phase of the program in January of their junior year. The bachelor of science degree in health science is awarded in May of the second year. The master of science degree is awarded at the conclusion of the PA program. The majority of our students enter the PA program through this route.
- Two-year track: The student with a bachelor’s degree enters the PA program and is awarded a master’s degree upon completion. Note these students complete the entire 27-month program, but for the sake of simplicity the track is referred to as the two-year track.
Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) Certification Examination (PANCE) and apply for state licensure.

The Springfield College PA program matriculated its first students in 1994 and awarded the first bachelor’s degrees and certifications in 1996. The program was awarded initial accreditation in 1996, with continuing accreditation awarded in 1999 and again in 2003. Since the program’s last accreditation decision in 2003, the curriculum made the transition to the graduate level.
The Springfield College Physician Assistant Program does not offer advanced placement for any prior course work or clinical activity.
