5 Great Reasons to Major in Physician Assistant Studies at Springfield College

Great Reasons!Physician Assistants (PA) are educated in intensive medical programs accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).

As an accredited physician assistant program, Springfield College offers physician assistant majors the opportunity to complete their Bachelor of Science in Health Studies and Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies over the course of just five years.

All physician assistant faculty members at Springfield College are certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and are licensed by the State of Massachusetts, by the State Board of Public Health, and by the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency. They are also still clinically practicing and serve locally as well as in developing countries. They are national authors and speakers, and involved in clinical research with local community physicians.

Springfield College offers clinical experience in: family medicine, internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, psychiatry, and emergency medicine. Springfield College students are well prepared for employment upon graduation.

Great Reasons! Employment of physician assistants is expected to grow 27 percent through 2016, much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 2006, more than half of jobs for physician assistants were in the offices of physicians and about a quarter were in hospitals, both public and private. The rest were mostly in outpatient care centers, including health maintenance organizations, the Federal Government, and public or private colleges, universities, and professional schools.

Great Reasons!All states require physician assistants to pass the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination, administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, which is open only to graduates of accredited physician assistant education programs.
