A second endowment objective of the Campaign is to significantly increase scholarship opportunities to strengthen the College's ability to recruit and retain students of the highest caliber. More than 86% of our students receive financial assistance, with 34% receiving Pell Grants. Through the years, a large number of graduates and friends, many of whom themselves were beneficiaries of scholarship aid, have given generously to create named endowed scholarships, but more are needed. Scholarships allow the College to reach out to talented students who have made Springfield College their first choice but who may not have the financial means to attend.

Peter G. Helie '72

Peter G. Helie '72 grew up with a mother who was a real go-getter. While raising four children primarily on her own, Geraldine M. Helie worked in the fashion industry of the 1950s as a buyer for Saks Fifth Avenue and as the owner of several innovative businesses. "She was a value-driven person," says Helie. "There were values on how you behave, how you work, how you treat people." His mother also had this mantra: "Learn to do everything yourself because no one's going to do it for you."
