Schoo-Bemis Science Center

Initial success of Leadership for the 21st Century has made possible the transformation of the Schoo Hall classroom building into the Schoo-Bemis Science Center.

Springfield College's science programs have a reputation for excellence, both in placing applicants in medical, dental, and veterinary schools as well as in the rate of graduation from these schools. Over 95% of pre-med students applying to medical or dental school are accepted by their school of choice. Existing classroom and laboratory facilities, however, did not meet the constant and growing demand from those pursuing science. Approximately 85 percent of Springfield College students need science courses to fulfill their major and minor.

Springfield College's new science center has united departments and heightened interdisciplinary communication. New state-of-the-art laboratories and ample lecture space provide flexibility to accommodate evolving pedagogical approaches and promote cross-fertilization of ideas. The new Schoo-Bemis Science Center encourages much more than "doing science." Students now have the tools to explore, model, simulate and use data for research and access to technology via media and network connections in all teaching and learning spaces.

Helping to Grow Minds Patent Lawyer Makes $130K Campaign Gift

Herb Jervis '64

Herb Jervis '64, G'66 and Mary, his wife of 31 years, both give to various charities in their community, but it is Springfield College that holds a special place in Jarvis' heart, and so it is to Springfield that his largest gifts-and a bequest-will go.

Retired, Jarvis still teaches a law school class in intellectual property law and also tutors high school AP Biology students. And he responds when he is asked to talk to students about his thriving career as a university-professor-turned-lawyer. Why? Because now it's his turn to teach others how to learn and grow.
