School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation

If you would like a career leading people engaged in sport, wellness, exercise, or recreational activities, one of the academic majors within the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation will prepare you for that role.  All of the majors are nationally and internationally recognized as those among the leading professional preparation programs in the United States.  All are accredited and/or approved by appropriate national organizations or government agencies.

Each program requires skills to work with and lead other people.  Some of the programs prepare students to work primarily with children and adolescents, while others have as a principal focus working with the adult population.  All programs have in common serving others based upon the College Humanics Philosophy.

Although each major is unique and prepares students to enter different professions, they do share some common characteristics:  all have as their foundation a general education core and all have significant practical experiences built into the curricula.  Most of the majors require a minimum of two practical experiences in the field of choice, including a full semester long internship/fieldwork or student teaching experience.  Our student teaching placements are within a 90 mile radius of the College for supervision and Massachusetts teacher licensing purposes.  Internship placements have included ESPN, New England Patriots, Disney World, Boston Children’s Hospital, Connecticut PGA, Stowe Mountain Resort, National Park Service, Universities of Tennessee, Texas, Auburn and UMASS, and many more.  A vast majority of our graduates secured their first jobs due to their exceptional performance during their internship or student teaching experience.
