Employers Flock to Jobs Fair for Area College Students |

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 10, 2007 – As college seniors intensify their searches for employment after graduation, more than a hundred national and regional employers will converge at Jobs Fair 2007 for students and graduates of the eight greater Springfield colleges. Springfield College will host the annual event on Wednesday, April 11, from 1 to 4 p.m., in Blake Arena.
Organized by the colleges’ career centers, the event will feature opportunities for full-time and part-time employment, seasonal jobs, and internships. It will be open to students and graduates of American International, Bay Path, Elms, Holyoke Community, Springfield, Springfield Technical Community, Western New England, and Westfield State colleges. According to Barbara Kautz, director of the Springfield College Career Center, "The employment outlook for this year's graduates is strong. There are increasing opportunities in health science, with some employers paying sign-on bonuses. In human services, several state agencies are posting more positions now than last year. Entry-level positions in business and recreation are steady, and opportunities in education for teachers, counselors, and administrators, particularly in secondary and special education, are good as older professionals retire. “Students who have enhanced their educations with workplace internships and fieldwork are most likely to transition quickly from student to professional,” she added. “There are job opportunities for qualified graduates who conduct well-focused, yet flexible, job searches, and who present themselves and their qualifications with professionalism.” Career centers at area colleges help students and alumni prepare for employment. They guide students in exploring various kinds of careers, developing career-related experiences, identifying employment opportunities, refining job searching skills, transitioning to the workplace, and more. They also advise on applying to graduate school. Kautz said that the colleges’ annual jobs fair has successfully linked employers and future employees or interns through its 12-year history. “Greater Springfield’s colleges provide this region with a strong talent pool.
