SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 5, 2007 – National Recreation and Park Association President Tom Farrell and Executive Director John Thorner will present Springfield College’s annual Weckwerth Lecture on Wednesday, April 11, at 5:15 p.m., in the Townhouse Conference Room, on the campus.
Farrell and Thorner will discuss “Marketing Today and Tomorrow for Parks and Recreation” at the premiere scholarly event of the Springfield College Department of Sport Management and Recreation. The annual lecture focuses on emerging trends in the field of recreation, as Americans have increasingly more time and options for leisure. It is open to the public free of charge.
The lecture will cap the college’s one-day sport management and recreation marketing symposium. Dusty Rhodes, founder and chief executive officer of Conventures, Inc., a New England-based special events agency, will present “Innovative Marketing Techniques” at 10:30 a.m. Kevin Cummings, executive director of Bay State Games, will present “Marketing Grass Roots Athletics Events from the Non-Profit Perspective” at 1:15 p.m.; and Nelson Melendez, former president of the World Leisure and Recreation Association, will present “Ethical Considerations in Recreation and the Environment” at 2:35 p.m.
The Weckwerth Lecture is named in honor of Charles F. Weckwerth, distinguished Springfield College professor of humanics emeritus. More information is available from the Springfield College School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at 748.3693.
