Springfield College to Explore International Impact of Humanics Philosophy

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 3, 2007 – Mark Blegen, Ph.D., Springfield College assistant professor of applied exercise science, has been elected Massachusetts state director for the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

In his new position, Blegen will coordinate clinics and membership in Massachusetts for NSCA, a nonprofit educational association of professionals from the sport science, athletic, allied health, and fitness fields. NSCA develops and presents advanced information on strength training and conditioning practices, injury prevention, and research findings.

Blegen joined the Springfield College faculty in 2004. He teaches courses in the applied exercise science major, which the college developed in 1980 as one of the first programs of its kind in the United States. Blegen earned his advanced degrees in exercise physiology, including a doctorate from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, and a master’s degree from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn. He graduated with departmental distinction in sport science from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.
