Springfield College Honored by City Council Proclamation

Springfield College Honored by City Council Proclamation
President Richard B. Flynn accepts the Springfield City Council Proclamation from City Councilor Domenic Sarno on Dec. 11, 2006.
The Springfield City Council issued a proclamation at its Dec. 11, 2006, meeting, commending Springfield College for earning the designation of “best neighbor” in a 2006 national listing on urban colleges and thanking the College for “making the City of Springfield a better place to live.” President Richard B. Flynn accepted the proclamation, sponsored by City Councilor Domenic Sarno and all councilors, which also recognized the College’s students, faculty, and staff for helping to “improve the neighborhood to make it a better place to live, work, and learn.”

Springfield College was cited as a “best neighbor” in 2006 by Evan Dobelle, president of the New England Board of Higher Education. His Saviors of Our Cities list cites colleges for having dramatically strengthened their economy and quality of life in their neighboring community by their careful strategic planning and thoughtful use of resources. The College was one of only six institutions in New England to be named to this prestigious national listing. The College also received the 2006 Super 60 Award for Revenue from the Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield, Inc., as a top business that makes significant contributions to the strength of the regional economy.

“I am deeply honored to have accepted this Proclamation, which recognizes the profound common purpose of growth and development that are crucial to the College’s and the city’s respective futures,” said Flynn.  “I was especially pleased when each of the councilors present stood individually and offered accolades to the College, commenting on the dedication and good work of our students, staff, and faculty.”

The text of the actual proclamation follows.
