Pres. Flynn Elected To NCAA D-III Presidents Council

Springfield College President Richard B. Flynn has been elected to the Division III Presidents Council of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Flynn was elected to a full four-year term in a vote by chief executive officers of the 421 Division III institutions.

The NCAA Division III Presidents Council establishes and directs policies of Division III (D-III) and establishes its strategic plan. It also approves regulations for D-III championships, approves the use of D-III funds, and makes budgetary recommendations to the NCAA Executive Committee. Among other duties, it sponsors D-III legislation, and assures gender and ethnic diversity in the D-III administration. Flynn has been Springfield College’s 12th president since 1999. He is a nationally recognized expert in the areas of strategic and long-range planning, leadership development, university/school/community collaboration, facility planning, and organizational evaluation. The author of four books, several book chapters, and more than three dozen articles on a wide range of topics, he is the recipient of numerous national and international awards.

Flynn earned his bachelor's degree from MacMurray College, which later inducted him into its athletic hall of fame. He received his master's degree from Ohio University, and doctorate in education from Columbia University.
