Physical Education Teacher Licensure Program

The physical education teacher licensure program at Springfield College emphasizes physical education as essential learning that works with classroom learning to holistically educate each child. Throughout your four-year program, you’ll put your classroom learning to work in practical experience in public schools. You’ll take a range of education courses for teachers. Upon completion, you’ll be eligible to apply for physical education initial licensure for grades pre-K to 12.

The program prepares a student to become a teacher of physical education, uniquely equipped to apply personal and professional knowledge in school settings. Initial involvement and hands-on experiences with school students begins in the first academic year, and continues in public and private sectors throughout the four-year program.

Springfield College students will be actively engaged in the principles and methods of teaching, while receiving in-depth exposure to movement concepts and fundamental motor patterns, physical education activities for children, and outdoor adventure activities. Physical activity skill requirements also include courses in traditional sport skills.

The physical education teacher licensure program is designed to help the student complete the movement and sport studies (physical education) major and meet all requirements set by the physical education teacher licensure program. Upon completion, the student will be licensed to teach physical education for grades Pre-K to 12.
