SHS Boston Student Appointed to Rhode Island Democratic Party

The SHS Boston campus is proud to claim Grace Diaz, State Representative of Rhode Island, as one of its members. Grace is completing her Bachelor of Science degree in human services. During February 2008, she was appointed "Vice Chairwoman of the Rhode Island Democratic Party." Her web page contains information about her truly remarkable story. She came to the United States from the Dominican Republic with $40 in her pocket and two dresses in her suitcase. She learned English, opened a home daycare, and then, with the support and help of the home daycare-provider community, ran for state office and won, unseating an incumbent. She is thought to be the first woman from the Dominican Republic elected to state office in the nation. She is also the mother of 5 children. She is also a passionate supporter of Springfield College. Click on the link below to visit Grace’s web page.
