Confidentiality

As licensed professionals, we are required by law and ethical responsibility to explain some information for you to consider as you enter counseling. Counseling may involve sharing of sensitive, private information about yourself. We recognize students’ concern regarding confidentiality and we strictly adhere to maintaining confidentiality. We will not share any information regarding you with school administrators, teachers, parents or anyone else without your permission. There are, however, several exceptions to confidentiality that we must explain to you. Among these exceptions are:
  • (1) child or elder abuse or neglect
  • (2) harm to yourself or others
  • (3) legally valid court ordered subpoena
  • (4) staff and supervisory consultation.
Please note that situations described in 1, 2, and 3 are extremely rare, but should they occur, we will advise you of any action that may be taken.

We are unable to ensure the confidentiality of E-mail, so students should use caution when using this method of communication.
Is there a Cost?
  • The Counseling Center is a free service, and there is no limit to the number of sessions students can have.
