The Health/Family and Consumer Sciences program is designed to meet the licensure requirements for graduate students who currently hold a teaching license in another discipline as well as those students who earned their baccalaureate in a non-teaching field. Program requirements differ for the licensed graduate student and the non-licensed graduate student. Differences in coursework and fieldwork are designed to compliment graduate students’ past educational accomplishments. Licensed teachers take an upper level methods course plus complete a 150 clock hour clinical experience in health/family and consumer sciences. Additionally, undergraduates in Springfield College’s Physical Education Teacher Preparation Program are provided the opportunity to secure a minor in Health Studies, therefore eliminating all of the program’s prerequisites. This enables those students to secure a health/family and consumer sciences teaching license in a minimum of year.
