The College's graduate programs in the exercise science and sport studies department appeal to physical educators, health and wellness professionals, coaches, athletic trainers, and other exceptional students who are interested in movement, exercise, or sport sciences.
Advanced study in human movement and exercise provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the physiological, biomechanical, or psychosocial foundations of movement in exercise, sport, games, and dance. A master's degree from one of the exercise science or sport studies programs equips students for a science-based sport or exercise oriented career, including psychosocial, physiological, or biomechanical research and/or teaching in higher education. The master’s degree may also form a substantial foundation toward doctoral study.
Graduate study in the exercise sciences at Springfield College is based on a long tradition of excellence started by pioneers in the discipline such as Peter Karpovich, Josephine Rathbone, Erastus Pennock and Luther Gulick. In keeping with that tradition, faculty guide selectively chosen, excellently qualified students through their program of course work and research requirements in an attempt to extend the tradition of leadership into the future of the field.
