DANC 210: Passion, Power, & Creative Process: Unmasking Dance in the Italian Renaissance
Faculty Director: Cynthia Nazzaro Ed.D., professor of dance, Springfield College
This course is designed to introduce students to the historical and artistic origins of dance as a theater art with the focus on developments during the Italian Renaissance. Studies will include Italian folk and court dance forms; ballet and contemporary forms; and Renaissance art, theater design, music, and costumes.

Study Abroad in Italy Topics will be explored through lecture, reading, writing, dance critiquing, research, a field trip to Florence, dance classes with an Italian teacher, reconstruction of specific dances, and individualized choreographic studies.

This course meets a selective requirement for the dance major at Springfield College. For other majors, it may be double-counted as a Visual and Performing Arts general education course and a Global Perspectives general education course. (3 semester hours) Prerequisites: none. Note: This course involves some movement participation, but requires no prior training.

Applications are available through Dr. Nazzaro and will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis until January 31. Participation requirements are listed on applications. Estimated Program cost: $4,700 for 3-credits
