Welcome
Welcome! The Office of Residence life has taken great care to provide students a living environment that is safe, healthy, and most of all, fun. Below you will find some information about our residence halls, as well as importantMost students live in double rooms. In the co-ed halls, students of the same sex occupy an entire floor or wing.
The rooms in each residence hall are furnished with a dresser, extra long (80”) single bed, desk and chair for each student. The students must supply lamps, bedspreads, towels, linen, curtains, pillows, telephones, wastebaskets, irons and other miscellaneous items. Please be aware that halogen lamps are not allowed in student rooms as they pose a serious fire hazard. Microwaves are also not allowed in student rooms due to fire and safety regulations; however, each kitchen is equipped with a microwave for students' use.
All residence halls provide cable television and computer network access and telephone/voicemail service.
There are three residence halls available to new students:
Residency Requirement – Springfield College is a residential college that is committed to the belief that there are numerous benefits to living in a college community. The college believes in the education of the whole person and regards the residential experience as an integral part of that education. For this reason the College requires all full-time undergraduate students to live on campus for a minimum of three years unless the student meets one of the following conditions:
- You are 23 years of age or older; are married, have a dependant child, have been a veteran of at least two years on active military duty, are planning to live at home with a parent(s) or guardian and that home is within a 60 mile radius, have lived on campus for three years at another college.
- Students who meet one of the above criteria are required to petition the Office of Residence Life by submitting a Commuter Status Application. Approved students will have their status recorded by the College.
Gulick Hall– Centrally located, this large co-ed hall houses nearly 300 first-year students in double rooms. Residents share in a community with other students with similar academic interests.
Massasoit Hall - This co-ed residence hall houses 112 first-year students in double rooms.
Reed Hall – This small residence hall houses 150 first-year students in double and single rooms.
Telephone service and individual voice-mail are available in each room at no cost to students; therefore there is no need to have a telephone answering machine; however, students must provide their own touch-tone telephones. You will probably want to check with your roommate before buying a phone to avoid duplication of phones in one room. Long distance is provided by AT&T and billed directly to the student monthly.
Each residence hall has at least one kitchen where students may cook or reheat food, and several lounges for studying and relaxing.
- Recommended carpet sizes for residence hall rooms are 5X7
- Shades or blinds are provided in the residence hall rooms
- Rooms are supplied with an extra long twin size bed with a height of 6-8 inches above the floor, a dresser, a desk, and closet space
