Class of '59
Dear Classmate:
As you read this letter, our 50th reunion from Springfield College is less than two months away. Have you finalized your plans to attend? Much is happening and we have heard from many classmates planning to return that have not been back to campus in many years! Check the college web site: Alumni@spfldcol.edu, then check out our 1959 class web site to see who is planning on returning….much more information, as well.
If you cannot make the whole weekend, try to make the activities on Saturday or as much of any day that may fit with your calendar. We would enjoy seeing you back on campus.
To review:
Friday morning is the annual golf tournament for all who are so inclined.
Friday evening is the gala casino event in Cheney Hall, complete with faculty and staff croupiers and free Doggett Dollars redeemable for games and prizes.
Saturday morning is the Golden Triangle Breakfast honoring our class, to be followed by the Veterans recognition and then the President’s “state of the union” message.
Saturday at noon, our class will lead the alumni parade, where we have planned (committee decision) to wear blue blazers, white golf shirts, khakis and “Greg Norman straw hats…..hats to be provided.) We strive to set a “class” for this event that other classes may follow.
Saturday evening, our “official reunion dinner” will be held in the Town House Conference Center, site of SC Board Meetings. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Mimi Murray, ’61 who continues in her professorial role on campus. She is past Distinguished Professor of Humanics and an international consultant on sports psychology. Coach Doug Parker ’51 will also be our special guest.
Our host hotel is: Hilton Garden Inn, located adjacent to the Basketball Hall of Fame and just 15 minutes from campus. Free parking. Reserve your room now, if you haven’t done so already. Phone: 413-886-8000. Ask for the Class of ’59 block of rooms.
Check your mail in the near future for the full reunion program highlighting all the activities of the weekend.
We continue to make progress, though slowly, on our gifts to the annual fund. Current gifts in cash total $18,000 with an additional $9,100 in pledges. This represents approximately 50% of our goal and we really need to increase our % participation. In this major reunion year, we should strive for as close to 100% participation as possible. Please know that A SMALL GIFT IS AS IMPORTANT AS A LARGE ONE. Every gift counts toward our participation goal and every gift, including outright and planned gifts are counted toward our class gift to the college. Give thought to Owen Houghton’s recent letter updating all about giving opportunities. Know that however you may be able to help will be greatly appreciated!
Please also remember to send in your class dues of $25, which will help defray the cost of our reunion expenses. Mark on your check, “1959 class dues.”
The bottom line:
Your class reunion committee wants to see you back on campus in June!
Call a roommate, teammate, a friend and tell them you are returning and look forward to seeing them on campus.
Make your reservation today! Don’t put it off another minute!!
Come back “home” and see the campus we could only dream about!! You won’t believe the many advancements and new facilities!
