How much does it cost to live in the residence halls?
The cost of living on campus varies from one residence hall to another. For the latest pricing information, visit the Business Office.
How do you match roommates?
Students are matched through information provided from the roommate selection survey sent to each individual prior to their arrival. Please supply as much information in the survey as possible. The housing staff then matches students who seem most compatible. Understand that not all requests may be granted. Current students will undergo a Room Draw process that occurs during both fall and spring semesters. Your class at the time of the beginning of the fall semester will determine when you will participate in Room Draw.
Can I request a specific person to be my roommate?
Yes, only if both individuals are of the same sex, and they request each other on the Roommate Selection Survey.
When will I receive my housing assignment?
The Housing Office will send out two main mailings, one at the end of May and one at the end of July. Please note that submitting your survey early does not guarantee that you will be notified in the first mailing. In order to ensure the best pairing, matches are not made in the order that the Housing Office receives the returned surveys. In your assignment letter, you will receive your housing assignment and roommate information. The roommate information will allow you to contact your new roommate before you arrive on campus.
Is there a telephone in my room?
No, but there is one phone jack and two internet ports in each double room. (You may wish to coordinate this with your roommate).
How do students receive mail on campus?
Students may receive mail in their campus mailbox, which is located currently in Locklin Hall but will be moved to the new Campus Union upon completion. Students will be given their mailbox code or key during New Student Orientation, at the end of August.
How are residence halls staffed?
Residence halls are staffed with graduate students who serve as resident directors and assistant resident directors. In addition, each residence hall has a complete staff of undergraduate resident assistants. All staff is supervised by the director of housing and residence life.
Can I have a car on campus?
Only juniors, seniors, and graduate students may have cars on campus. First-years and sophomores may not have a car on campus without the approval of the Department of Public Safety.
Can I live in a single room?
Because Springfield College believes that living in a residence hall is part of the educational process, we try to accommodate all requests. However, single rooms are limited, so most are reserved for upperclassmen and graduate students. Remaining singles are given out on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Are the halls open during college breaks?
International Hall is the only residence hall open during ALL breaks. In the interest of safety, the College secures all remaining halls by changing locks during the vacation periods.
What happens if my roommate and I don't get along?
Students are encouraged to work out difficulties as a part of the educational process. Students who are having a problem are encouraged to discuss the matter with the residence hall staff. If the problem is not resolved, they should make an appointment in the Residence Life Office.
What should I do if my hall is too noisy for sleep or study?
We encourage all students to work out their differences. If that fails, you should consult your resident assistant (RA) or another member of the residence hall staff. The resident hall staff is trained to help students with a variety of situations that may arise within the halls.
