About the Special Education Teacher Preparation Program
The Springfield College Special Education Teacher Preparation Program is designed for part time students to pursue special education licensure while working full-time. We offer the convenience of late afternoon and early evening courses. The program prepares teachers in one to two years to teach students with mild to moderate disabilities and leads to the Massachusetts Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities license (grades PreK-8 or 5-12). This program is Massachusetts State approved and offers a unique training experience.
A Career in Special Education: Preparing "Teachers for All Children"
Our Special Education teacher preparation program is designed to prepare "teachers for all children." The special education program provides teachers with multiple teaching strategies and multiple forms of evaluation techniques that accommodate the learning needs of children with disabilities. We envision the classroom as a community shared by children, their parents, and their teachers.
Highlights of the Special Education Program
-
Flexible Scheduling
The program is designed to meet the needs of each individual. This allows participants to meet all initial licensure requirements and to become a full-time teacher within 12-24 months. -
Rigorous Field-Based Training
The practical application of course content is stressed throughout the program. Course requirements stress a “real world” orientation in collaboration with area schools. A Diverse and Academically Talented Candidate Pool
We seek candidates who possess academic talent and community commitment and who represent a diverse range of life experience, ethnicity, and economic background.-
Faculty Expertise
Our partnerships with local schools enable our faculty to collaborate with local school teachers to refine course content and enhance fieldwork experiences.
