Flight itineraries
Leave copies of your flight itinerary with the International Center at Springfield College and your parents. If your host institution provides airport pick-up, be sure that you have send them your itinerary by their deadline date.
Travel plans
When you do your independent traveling, you must leave your itineraries (where you are going, where you will be staying, with whom or with what group or company you will be traveling, how long you will be gone, when you will return, how people can contact you while you are away, e.g., a cell phone number. Supply as complete information as you can. Leave this information with your parents, the International Center at Springfield College (e-mail Dr. Szewczynski), and the international center at the Study Abroad Office of your host university. Also, consider leaving this information with a fellow student who will not be traveling with you.
Baggage
Be sure to check with your specific airline carrier what you are allowed to bring in your carry-on and if you can even have a carry-on. Also, find out the maximum weight for your check-in and if you are still allowed 2 pieces of luggage to check in. Take the time and weigh your bags at home.
Do not pack your passport. Keep it on your person and check to make sure that it is signed. Put a copy of your passport in your luggage and give one to your parents. Be sure that we have a copy in your file at the International Center.

Passport and Visa Links
Effective January 23, 2007, all U.S. citizens (including infants and children) will need a valid passport to travel to and from Bermuda, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean (excluding Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands). If any portion of your trip will take place on or after January 22, 2007, you will need a valid passport to re-enter the U.S. This policy also applies to foreign nationals of Canada, Bermuda and Mexico. Plan ahead and start the process to get your passport today. Note: Passport processing times have increased due to high volume. For more information see Passport Application Processing Times.

To apply for a passport for the first time, go in person to one of the many passport acceptance facilities around the country, including many post offices or libraries. (You can find one by ZIP code at: www.iafdb.travel.state.gov. You will need to bring two photographs of yourself, proof of U. S. citizenship, like a certified birth certificate and a valid photo identification, like a driver’s license. The fee is $97.00.
A non-government service which works with the U.S. Passport Agency to return U.S. passports in less than a week for emergencies. This is one of many private rush services. There are many others to choose from. For a list go to www.napvs.org. The cost for these services vary from $130 to $200 in addition to the passport fees.

TDS provides visa services for U.S. citizens for most countries for which an entry visa is required and can also assist with visa requirements for U.S. permanent residents for many countries. They also expedite U.S. passports (new issues, renewals, amendments, additional pages). Very urgent passports may be obtained same day.
