Their phone number is 413-781-8750. Call the hotel on this line and ask to speak to Janet Vetrano in the Sales Office. She is our direct contact and hostess for this big weekend. She is expecting your call. She will ask you what kind of a room you want (king, 2 double beds, suite… and location of same… if available). All our rooms carry a very special reduced rate for this big weekend of just $79. plus tax per night, and that includes a hot buffet breakfast. More than 70 rooms have been reserved/signed up to date. Please move now to reserve your room for Thursday, June 7 to Sunday, June 10, 2007… the big, once-in-a-lifetime, Golden Jubilee 50th. Reunion of the Class of ’57!

The hotel will take your information now but will not charge your card until you check in. (You can cancel before May 15th..)
The hotel has had some attractive upgrades in their physical plant to prepare for our arrival on this very special occasion. There were compliments all around, when our classmates arrived for our Homecoming Weekend to honor Bob Winglass in October ’06.

FACT THREE: SC’s Alumni Relations Office will be sending each of you a brochure in April or early May, for you to sign up for the things our Class will be participating in which SC is sponsoring. You check off what you want and then pay the amount listed for the total of your charges. (Our big Reunion Banquet is held off campus in our hotel’s 4-ballroom suite for the cocktails, dinner and ‘show’, and it has been completely planned by the class and the hotel, but it is easier if we each pay for this dinner, where it is marked for same, on the brochure, and then SC will pay the hotel! It will say ‘Class of ’57 Banquet’. (Banquet ticket (all inclusive of tax and tip) is $35. for ‘all you would like to eat’… It’s all your choice from these many stations!)

Please place a check beside these events on the SC Brochure (April) (counting your spouse/guest)… which we will support as a class, for those interested in doing so… Most events do not have a financial charge.
We will take the opportunity to support/enjoy the following events sponsored by the College, for all Reunion Classes:
  • Registration: Check in at Carlisle Foyer to pick up your weekend activity guidebook, tickets, and other important information you will need, (and ‘check out’ where our ’57 Auction tables will be on Friday am, right across the room!). Registration opens about 5 pm on Thurs. so if you prefer to come directly to the hotel (which will have your room ready at 1 PM!!!) and avoid commuter traffic on the highways, just pick up your registration info on Friday… unless you are playing in the Golf Tournament at 8 am Friday, then you will need your golf pass, etc. on Thurs. pm. (Note: Our big Reunion Opener of ’57 NO HOST/Welcome Back Dinner opens at 5: and runs to 8:30 on Thursday pm, also!)
  • Friday, 8 AM: ’57 Golfers (and spouses if interested) will have an opportunity to play (as a member of the Class of ’57 Team (large!) made up of 4-somes which our Golf Captain, Diane Potter will put together)… in the SC ANNUAL REUNION TOURNAMENT AT HAMPDEN COUNTRY CLUB. 8 AM SHOTGUN Style. 6:30 LEAVE HOTEL TO BE THERE TO REGISTER, GET CARD, CART, TEE ASSIGNMENT, etc. by 7 am.. Please sign up on sheet in this letter which you are returning to Carol Claflin, to let us know you (and anybody else?) want to play golf. This info goes to Diane Potter. She will send you a full sign-up sheet with handicap specs, etc., if you have one. OK if not. Golf Pro will give you one. Following Tournament, there is a BBQ and big prizes. Lots of fun. About $70 per person for all… including the cart/food/tournament, etc.. Cash Bar for beverages.
  • Friday, 7:15 PM: James Bond 007/Casino Night and Dinner in Cheney Hall … (about $30. SC hasn’t determined the fee yet.). It’s an opportunity to see other classes. Our ‘Golden Chip Party Coach (or 2) (which we hope to raise funds for, with our Auction items!) will move our classmates from the Hotel to the Campus and return after dinner. Always lots of fun and activity… Meet, greet old friends from other classes, professors, etc.. (Informal dress.)
  • Saturday at 9 AM: Class of ’57 is invited to breakfast at the home of President and Mrs. Flynn, on the lake, for the installation of the members of this 50th. Reunion Class, to be honored with a gift of a Golden Triangle, from the President, and be installed into the Golden Triangle Society. A SC tradition! There is no charge to our class for this nice function, and all classes older than ’57, professors, administrators, etc. will be there, to enjoy the function and salute our Class. (Informal dress for the day on campus. Try to wear your CLASS ACT Golf Shirt we wore to last Reunion parade, and made such a hit! If you need one, or need a new one, info will follow.) We are hoping to have The Golden Chip run a trip between the hotel and campus at 8:15 a.m. as others may want to drive, in daylight. The timing of the bus trip is usually about 30 minutes… depending on traffic and time of day.
  • 10:30 AM: Following the breakfast, there is a short tribute to Armed Services and all SC vets who fought in all wars. SC has invited Bob Winglass ’57 ( Lt. General, USMC Ret.) to be the presenter. About 15 min. at the flagpole on the green. ’57 has a lot of vets, so we have many to ‘salute’. (Thanks to all!!!)
  • 11 AM: President Flynn will present THE FUTURE OF SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE in the campus Fuller Performing Arts Theater. Class of ’57 will be introduced as the Golden Jubilee 50th. Reunion Class.
  • 12 NOON: Parade of the Reunion Classes! Step right up as General Winglass gets us in shape to march. Those classmates with heart or walking problems, please check on sheet you return from this letter. We have golf carts with an SC Office driver for you all to share. Presentation of Alumni Fund Raising Check to President Flynn by Alumnus in charge of entire drive. Class pictures are taken on steps of Marsh Memorial Library, by the Administration Bldg. Green.
  • 1 PM-ish Lovely Reunion Lunch on the green (Ad building). Always nice; always tasty… (about $13). Set on the lawn with nice tables and lawn chairs. A great opportunity to visit with our classmates and others.
  • 2 PM-ish: Golden Chip Party Coach returns classmates to hotel. Cars may leave earlier. Lots to be done!
  • 2:30 PM-ish: Decorate Ballrooms!!!!! We have only until 4 PM to decorate our 4-Ballroom suite for the big night tonight! We need help. We have divided the pictures to be taped to the walls, and divided classmates into teams to get them up nicely… and quickly! We should be out of ballrooms by 4 pm to get dressed. Party begins at 5 PM… We will post suggested scotch-tape teams on our Golden Nugget Hospitality Suite Wall on Thursday PM! THANKS!
(For those who have asked: Suggested dress for the Banquet and Show at the Golden Jubilee 50th. Reunion: Men: Many wear suits, but shirt/tie/nice slacks/blazer are fine… This is not a ‘casual dress’ night… Nor is it ‘formal’… In other years we have seen women wearing lovely long skirts, dressy women’s suits, cocktail dresses, etc..) Let the ‘Ball’ begin…
  • 5:00 PM The BIG EVENT begins! Class of ’57 Golden Jubilee 50th. Reunion at the Ballroom Suite of BW/S.

FACT FOUR:Class of ’57 Special Functions, not listed on SC Brochure Sign-Up Sheet, but ARE LISTED in Weekend Guidebook…
  • Thursday, June 7th. Class of ’57 Reunion Opens… The Fun of the 50th. Begins… when YOU arrive! We all look forward to seeing each of you again… some for the first time since Graduation Day, June 9, 1957! This is exciting. Thanks for making a special effort to make this Reunion great!
  • 1:00 PM -- Your room will be ready for you to check in, unpack, (nap?), get out and visit, etc.. ’57 will greet you!
  • 5:-8:30 PM -- NO HOST Welcome Back Dinner (with which we open every ’57 weekend, as it is a favorite and is casual): Come as you are, for drinks, dinner or sandwich, or just dessert and coffee… anything goes, and you just pay for what you order (individual tabs)… The tables are all set together, and we just visit and eat… CHECK RETURN SHEET IN THIS LETTER to reserve your seat(s) at this special Class of ’57 Dinner.
(Special this year: We will have a Swimmer’s Table for our ’57 Varsity Swimmers, listed in yearbook, and a few of their non-’57 team members (who have been given special invitations). These seats have been reserved by these swimmers and their wives, and will be set on the side of our Class group, so they can have some privacy to remember their days of competition through the years. Swimmers are excited about this opportunity. Some have not seen each other in 52 years!)
  • 8:30-11:PM -- GOLDEN NUGGET Class of ’57 Hospitality Suite (double room at left corner of atrium entrance) opens for you to deposit and use the bottle of the beverage of your choice which you brought to use during the weekend. Bob and Joyce Brown are Hosts of this Suite, and they will appreciate some assistance on closing it at the end of the time it is open each day. It will open again after class returns from SC Friday PM, and it will be open for bottle pick-up and a nightcap Sat. PM after the Golden Jubilee Banquet and Show. Please consider bringing some goodies to share: bottles of olives, boxes of crackers, bags of chips, favorite dips (you have a small refrigerator in your room), etc.. Class will provide cups, napkins, small plates, some soda and some/few mixers. Thurs. and Fri. PMs are the main times of use for this suite.
  • Friday, June 8th **We are waiting to hear final OK for this event… SC has not heard final OK from BB Hall of Fame, yet…
  • 10:00 AM to 2:+PM: The Coach Plan…The Golden Chip Party Coach will load at 10 am at hotel and take classmates (not playing golf, and interested in this plan), to the Basketball Hall of Fame in downtown Springfield. It is our hope to call this the LEON DOLEVA MEMORIAL SALUTE Trip, to honor our Class Advisor who was always helpful and active, from 1953-2004. The reason this would honor Leon, is because his Doleva relative is the President of the Hall of Fame, and we would like to have him guide this tour, or introduce it… all Dolevas! Following this, the Golden Chip will take us on a trip to Freshman Camp by the Lake, to eat a delicious lunch prepared in a Golden Bow Box for each of us. There will be a variety of wines included for taste… and fun!
After lunch, we will stop on campus to spend a short time at the big Silent Auction in Carlisle Foyer, so we can bid on the items of interest, and have a short campus visit. We are not sure what the charge for BB Hall of Fame tour and Golden Box lunch will be… Trying to keep it very small. Sign up on sheet here.
  • Friday, 4:30 – 6:PM Class of ’57 Cocktails Together in the Garden/Atrium at our Hotel… Cash Bar opens at 4:30. Classmates return earlier from the big Golf Game, and the Golden Chip Travel Coach/Basketball Hall of Fame/Leon Doleva Tour with Golden Bow Lunch and Wines, and brief visit to campus to the Silent Auction. Join all classmates in the Garden/Atrium for a cocktail party before boarding the Golden Chip Party Coach (2?) to travel to campus for an opportunity for all to visit the Silent Auction and to see a bit of campus, before the big evening on campus begins at 7:15 with the JAMES BOND/007 DINNER AND CASINO PARTY in Cheney Hall, the newly decorated/designed split level dining room used for all special functions, and for the students. (See pg. 2, note #3 for more info. More available, when SC has it.)
  • Sunday 6:30 AM – 10:30 AM… Class of ’57 Breakfast in the Fireside Room at BW/S Hotel… No matter when you have to catch your plane, or leave on wheels, pick up your breakfast tray from the buffet, and take it into the adjoining Fireside Room to have a ‘Bon Voyage’ breakfast, from which we can say ‘Adieu’! (There is also a (free) breakfast buffet on campus for same, but you may have long lines.)
Note: We will have final updates on numbers and information in a Spring issue of Class Act, so you will have the information. However, that will be a very late date to make decisions on functions we need numbers on… so we can make reservations, tie up staff for hotel service, and know what is ahead… ie know how many to plan on for each activity… (Of course, a few may make a change here or there…) The hotel will release any available rooms we have at a date certain (if we have any left at that time)… one month before our arrival… May 7, 2007… We are filling more rooms than we have ever taken before. Please reserve a room soon, if you are thinking about coming. Emergencies can release rooms later up until May 15th.. Your card will not be charged until you check in, in June.

We want all our classmates to ‘come home to Springfield’ and have a wonderful weekend of celebration and making more fond memories for their memory bank!

Our Class of ’57… 50th. Golden Jubilee Reunion numbers are breaking all college records… For this, and much more, we thank you! ………………
