Wellness Programs

Registration Information

  • Registration is required for all Wellness Workshops and designated Wellness Events. Participants can register in the Campus Recreation office during regular weekday business hours or by calling x3468. Registration ends one business day prior to the scheduled program.
  • No registration is required for Wellness Seminars.

September

  • Free Weights 101 (Wellness Workshop) When: Tuesday, 9/16, 12-1 pm What: If you have never used free weights or are looking to introduce some variety to your workout, this workshop is for you. Join us for this hands-on workshop that will teach you the basics of free weight strength training. Where: Wellness Center Fitness Area 1
  • Precor Icarion Strength 101 (Wellness Workshop) Where: Wednesday, 9/24, 4-5 pm What: Join our fitness staff in this hands-on workshop on how to use our Icarian strength machines, including learning about the target muscle groups, how to set them up and how to use them safely. Where: Wellness Center Fitness Area 2
  • Hoist Roc-It Strength 101 (Wellness Workshop) When: Tuesday, 9/30, 12-1 pm What: Join our fitness staff in this hands-on workshop on how to use our Hoist strength machines, including learning about the target muscle groups, how to set them up and how to use them safely. Where: Wellness Center Fitness Area 2

  • Eating Healthy on Campus (Wellness Seminar) When: Thursday, 10/16, 12-12:45 pm What: With so many dining options on campus, do you know how to make healthy choices? Join us during this active seminar to learn how to balance your meals and explore the healthy options that are offered on our campus. Where: Cheney Hall Lobby
  • Functional Strength Trainers 101 (Wellness Workshop) When: Tuesday, 10/9, 12-1 pm What: Join our fitness staff in this hands-on workshop on how to use our functional trainer machines, including a sampling of the many exercises that can be performed on these versatile pieces. Where: Wellness Center Fitness Area 2
  • Express Bikes 101 (Wellness Workshop) When: Wednesday, 10/22, 4-5 pm What: Join our fitness staff in this hands-on workshop on how to use our exciting virtual stationary bikes, including how to race your friends or challenge an opponent across the world. Where: Wellness Center Fitness Area 1

November

  • Eating Healthy Over the Holidays (Wellness Seminar) When: Thursday, 11/20, 12-12:45 pm What: Cookies, pumpkin pies, and gravy galore. While indulging in the holiday feasts is a fun part of the season, learn how you can balance satisfying your taste buds with some healthy seasonal options and smart nutrition choices. Where: Townhouse Conference Room
  • Plate-Loaded Strength 101 (Wellness Workshop) When: Tuesday, 11/11, 12-1 pm What: Join our fitness staff in this hands-on workshop on why and how to use our plate-loaded strength machines, including learning about the target muscle groups, how to set them up and how to use them safely. Where: Wellness Center Fitness Area 1
  • BOSU Balance Trainers 101 (Wellness Workshop) When: Wednesday, 11/19, 4-5 pm What: Ever wonder what those blue things are for? Join our fitness staff in this hands-on workshop to learn about this fun balance training tool includes some of the exercises you can utilize it for to improve your stability and strength. Where: Multi Use Room 1

December

  • Wishing You Winter Wellness (Wellness Seminar) When: Thursday, 12/4, 12-12:45 pm What: Learn how to brave the cold winter with some helpful seasonal health advice. Topics will range from staying physically active in the cold weather to avoiding and dealing with seasonal illness. Where: Townhouse Conference Room
  • Student Chair Massages (Wellness Event) When: Monday, 12/8, 2-5 pm What: Studying for final exams got you a little tense? Take a quick break for yourself and relax with a mini-massage. Where: Wellness Center Lounge Registration is recommended for this event!
  • Strength with Tubing 101 (Wellness Workshop) When: Tuesday, 12/9, 12-1 pm What: Want to get a full-body workout with a piece of equipment that can easily fit in your gym bag? Join our fitness staff for this hands-on workshop that will expose you to a variety of exercises using an elastic exercise tube. Where: Multi Use Room 2

Group Exercise Instructor Training Program

  • This program will be offered each semester as a non-credit group exercise instruction preparation course. The program is designed to help participants prepare for a national organization. If participants are not currently certified, but would like to teach classes for SC Campus Recreation, this program is a prerequisite. Individuals should contact the Assistant Director (Fitness & Wellness) to register at x3421
  • The fall 2008 GXIT program will run from October 1 to November 19 from 2-4 pm. Each week will start in the Wellness Center classroom and progress to one of the Multipurpose Studios. Come dressed for activity!
