Mathematics and Computer Technology Major at Springfield College
Mathematics and Computer Technology is a relatively new major that provides students with a program of study in which they may tailor a discipline in mathematics and computer science in accordance with three possible concentrations that are built on a core of computer science and mathematics courses. The program core in the Mathematics and Computer Technology major consists of computer science courses such as microcomputer applications, studio in computer graphics, computer animation, and hypermedia and mathematics courses such as calculus, discrete mathematics, geometry and mathematics seminar. Students enrolled in the Mathematics and Computer Technology major must select one of the following three available concentrations: computer science, mathematics, or mathematics and computer technology learning applications.The computer science concentration offers additional work in areas such as computer architecture and databases while the mathematics concentration offers additional work in areas such as "mathematical analysis" and "abstract algebra." Students who select the mathematics and computer technology learning applications concentration are expected to pursue an elementary teacher licensure program and will take courses in the teaching of elementary mathematics and curriculum standards, as well as complete a student-teaching practicum.
