Springfield College Gymnasitcs Camp

A Half Day Program for Children and youth ages 6-17Register Early!

The Program:
This positive community-based grassroots summer program is designed to provide boys and girls aged six through 17 with a fun filled introduction to the sport of gymnastics. Activities include instruction in tumbling, vaulting and the gymnastics apparatus. The children are introduced to basic gymnastics skills using carefully designed learning progressions. Strength, flexibility and agility exercises will also be developed as important ingredients in gymnastics and all sports and fitness activities. An expert staff of college students and professionals will coach and supervise all gymnastics and recreational activities. Boys and Girls at all skill levels are encouraged to enroll and instruction will be carefully adapted according to the child’s experience level.
Daily Schedule
9 a.m. - Drop off at Physical Education Complex
9 – 9:30 a.m. - Stretching and Warm up
9:30 – 10:30 a.m. - Gymnastics and skills development
10:30 – 11:00 a.m. - Supervised recreational swim or recreational activities
11:00 a.m. – Noon - Strength, flexibility and agility training
Noon - Pick up
Facilities
- Top air conditioned gymnastics training facility with a spring tumbling floor, mini trampolines, a full size trampoline and top Olympic Gymnastics equipment.
- Full-sized athletic fields and gymnasiums for recreational activities
- Olympic-sized swimming pool for recreational swim
Directors
Dr. Stephen PosnerIn his 26th season as head men’s gymnastics coach at Springfield College, Dr. Steve Posner is one of the outstanding gymnastics coaches in the nation. Last year, his team enjoyed another successful season, placing first at the New England Invitational Championships, sixth at Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC)/Eastern Intercollegiate Gymnastics League (EIGL) Championships, and fourth at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships. Posner has coached 123 All-Americans and 17 National Champions, and has led the Pride to three straight USAG crowns from 1991 to 1993 during his tenure at Springfield College. He was selected both the USAG and National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC) Division II-III Coach of the Year in 1992 and 1993, and earned NCAA Eastern Regional Coach of the Year honors in 2002. In 2007 Coach Posner was awarded the prestigious “Honor Coach Award” for 25 years or more of outstanding contributions and leadership to the sport of gymnastics. Posner served as the gymnastics chair for the World Maccabiah Games in Israel in 1997. He was the chairman of the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Committee from 1991 to 1994 and is the current president of that committee, as he is also a member of the NCAA Rules Committee. Posner competed at the University of California and earned All-American honors in the floor exercise in 1974. The following year, he helped lead the Golden Bears to the NCAA Division I Championship. He was a member of the U.S. Elite National Team from 1973 to 1975 and won gold medals in the floor exercise and in the all-around at the 1973 Maccabiah Games. Posner, an associate professor of sports management, joined the Springfield College staff in 1982 after coaching at SUNY Cortland for two years. He also served as an assistant coach at Syracuse University from 1977 to 1980. Posner earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Cal-Berkley, his master’s degree in physical education from Syracuse, and his Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut.

Upon receipt of registration, a confirmation letter containing additional information and a medical form will be sent out. A completed medical form, signed by a physician and proof of health insurance will be required prior to the start of camp.
