Dr.David I. Rudder

Dr. David I. Rudder is the Associate Dean of the School of Human Services. He will be the instructor for the course entitled: Leadership A Life Long Journey Rudder comes from Wilmington, Delaware where he was an academic advisor and an assistant athletic director at Delaware Technical & Community College. He was also adjunct faculty member at Springfield College the School of Human Services at the Wilmington campus. Dr. Rudder comes with a solid background in adult education, as well as commitment in areas most important to students including academic success, student retention, and community service. Dr. Rudder has worked for Delaware Technical & Community College where he was responsible for academic advising, developing retention & mentoring initiatives for males, as well as developing community partnerships with high schools, nonprofits, detention centers and social service agencies. He is a former board member of the Northeast Region of the National Council on Black American Affairs, and was the 2011 recipient of Delaware’s Department of Services for Children, Youth, and their Families Community Partners Award. He was a consultant for the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League, United Way of Delaware, City of Wilmington Department of Children, Youth and Families and served as a board member for the Eastside Charter School, Wilmington’s Marion T. Academy, the Denmark School and the YMCA Resource Center. Rudder earned his master’s degree at the State University of New York at Buffalo in Public Affairs, and his bachelor’s degrees from Canisius College. He hails originally from Brooklyn, New York.

Karen Marie Lennon

Karen Marie Lennon teaches Issues in Research at Springfield College, and has extensive experience with education and health programs, research, and evaluation. She will be the instructor for the course entitled:Program Evaluation. She holds a bachelor’s degree is in International Studies, and a Masters degree in International Education with a focus in public health. She did her doctoral work with the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in Education Policy, Research and Administration. Karen’s research focused on a comparative analysis of four rural communities, located in a small geographic region that contains varied ecologies and divergent and unique agricultural and cultural characteristics. Karen worked continually in Bolivia from 1990 - 2000, involved with rural community health education, indigenous women's cooperatives, food security issues, and gender programs. Work experience and a sample of her consultancies include United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in addition to various non-governmental organizations. Other areas of experience include project coordinator for Guatemalan Indigenous Literacy Project (COMAL); health literacy research, evaluation, and nutrition education with the Department of Nutrition at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Debra C. Anderson

Debra C. Anderson has 33 years as a YMCA professional serving the last 23 years in executive leadership positions. She will be the instructor for the course entitled:Strategic Planning. She is the President and CEO for the West End YMCA located in the west end of San Bernardino County. The West End YMCA is a four million dollar association with four branches serving seven communities. The County is one of the most impacted areas by the current economic downturn, with top five unemployment and foreclosure rates. In addition to the YMCA, Debra has taught a variety of courses at Springfield College (Los Angeles and San Diego) for the last 13 years.Her areas of expertise include community development, collaborations, working with troubled organizations, leadership and management development, risk management/assessment, multicultural education, fiscal management and organizational/community change, and consultant work and training for YMCAs and other human service organizations along the west coast.
Nadira K. Charaniya

Nadira K. Charaniya

Nadira K. Charaniya, has eight years experience as full-time faculty and currently serves as the Assistant Dean/Campus Director for the Los Angeles campus of the School of Human Services. She will be your instructor for the courses entitled Graduate Project . She is also a reviewer for the Council for Standards in Human Service Education and a co-editor of the National Organization for Human Services' newsletter, the Link. She is a contributing author for the forthcoming Handbook of Transformative Learning. Nadira's affiliation with the YMCA includes serving on the Board of the Miller Family YMCA in Newbury Park, California. Her areas of expertise include leadership and management development, multicultural education, adult education, critical theory, collaborative inquiry, and interfaith dialogue.
