Microsoft Updates Info

Before you install Windows Operating System Service Packs:

  • Protect your important personal files.

  • We strongly suggest you back up or make a copy of your important and irreplaceable personal information, such as pictures, documents, music, and financial data.

  • Check your computer for viruses.

  • Scan your hard drive to verify it is clean of viruses. Once you have downloaded McAfee Antivirus, Right click the V-Shield icon in lower right corner of task bar, click on “VirusScan Console”, click “Scan All Fixed Disks” and then click green arrow in button bar under the menu bar to start the scan.

  • Check your computer for unwanted software.

  • You can detect and remove unwanted software from your computer using a variety of tools available from other companies, including Lavasoft Ad-aware (Note: Springfield College is not responsible for the quality, performance, or reliability of third-party tools.)

  • Get the latest PC manufacturer updates for Windows XP SP2.

  • As one of the steps to ensuring you have all of the support information you need to install SP2, Microsoft recommends that you visit your PC manufactuers Web Site first and search for any information about SP2 that might apply to your computer.
