The year 2008 is an Olympic Year and our USA women will leave for China to defend their 4-time gold medalist achievement. Softball has been one of the most dominating sports on the international scene for forty years. After this year, who knows when the sport will be back on the Olympic calendar; it was voted out of the Olympics in London in 2012.
But we don’t have to worry about this happening at Springfield College! This August 1-2 is our reunion weekend, voted in by popular demand from all of you! I hope you will join the softball committee and me for a fun-filled weekend. Like the USA team, you will pack your bags, bring your glove, cleats, plenty of ice packs, and Bengay, and join all of us back on the campus of Springfield College, Home of the Pride.
Please join us for the entire weekend or just a day, I hope you can join us!
Plan on staying at the Hilton Garden Inn; to book your room, call 413-886-8000 and have your major credit card ready.
Friday, August 1
- Golf, with a 9- and 18-hole option Afternoon - (Time TBD)
- Social at the Hilton Gardens - 7:00 p.m.
Saturday, August 2
- Softball clinic for local girls - 10:30 a.m.
- Reunion Game for us - 2:00 p.m.
- Tours of the new Field House - 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
- Reception and Dinner - 6:00 p.m.
We’ll be creating a media presentation for display at the dinner as well, and we want you to be involved in its creation. We’d like you to send in some of the photos of your time on the team that are collecting dust in your house. Get them scanned, put them on a CD (many camera shops and even Wal-Mart should be able to help you with that), and mail them to Kathy Mangano, 263 Alden Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Be sure to include the years the photos came from (if you can remember!) If you must mail hard copy photos, please write your name and address on them so they may be returned.
Why come back to Springfield College? BECAUSE YOU CAN! Take the time to renew friendships, tour the campus and see the many wonderful changes, and meet and greet old teammates, and coaches. Whether you lace up the cleats to play or not, consider rooting from the stands and/or helping with a youth clinic. Please return the enclosed pre-response form to let us know if you plan to be here.
It’s an Olympic Year and, yes, it’s our Reunion Year. Put the date on your calendar and come back! I dare ya!
