History Minor
“Not to know what happened before one was born is always to be a child.” -Cicero
History provides an excellent program of study for becoming a complete person. As Roman philosopher Cicero has recognized, you need to understand the past to develop as a person. Springfield College challenges students to learn how best to improve the body, mind, and spirit for leadership in service to humanity. We can only achieve this goal by reading and analyzing the experiences of those people who came before us.
Courses in history offer students the background and context for cultural, social, economic, religious, and political changes we experience today. Through study of ancient and modern events, you will better appreciate the challenges that confronted individuals, families, and countries over time. Rather than dismissing history as irrelevant to the present, we encourage you to view the past as a laboratory in which to learn about the world of today and tomorrow.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE HISTORY MINOR (18 S.H.)
- Colonial America to the Civil War (3 S.H.)
- Civil War to Modern America (3 S.H.)
- You will need to select two courses in European History and two selective History courses.
