Occupational Therapy Graduation Ceremony held for Master's Degree students

The Occupational Therapy Program held their Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2009 on June 26 to recognize the students who have completed the requirements for the Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.

Dr. Katherine Post, Chair of the Occupational Therapy Department, offered welcoming remarks and Dr. Jean Wyld, Vice President for Academic Affairs was the guest speaker. Thirty-six students were presented with their diplomas and pins by Dr. Wyld, Dr. Post, and Dr. David Miller, Interim Dean for the School of Health Sciences and Rehabilitation Studies.

Summer Institute held at Springfield College for local community college students who are interested in health care careers

A two-week Summer Institute was held at Springfield College for local community college students who are interested in health care careers. The institute was part of a three year partnership grant awarded through the Donohue Institute, University of Massachusetts, Pioneer Valley Health Careers Opportunity Program (PV-HCOP), Allied Health Career Pipeline. PV-HCOP is federally funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration

The institute provided students with the information and experiences necessary to make informed career choices. Dr. Kathy Pappas, Assistant Professor in the Physical Therapy Department coordinated the institute and offered the students a mix of classroom training, exposure to college resources, and community-based experiences at a variety of health care organizations within the Pioneer Valley.
