Dr. Bernard Graney received an Award for Excellence from the New England Business Associates (NEBA)
Dr. Bernard Graney, professor in the Rehabilitation and Disability Studies Department, recently received an Award for Excellence from the New England Business Associates (NEBA). NEBA is a nonprofit agency committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities through employment. Established in 1983, NEBA has been providing individualized supported employment services to people once considered “unemployable” due to the type and level of their disability. Dr. Graney made important efforts in maintaining and cultivating a relationship with this organization and this connection and partnership is a valuable resource for the Rehabilitation and Disability Studies department and for Springfield College.Physician Assistant Program holds their White Coat Ceremony marking the transition for students from the classroom to the clinic.
Springfield College’s Physician Assistant (PA) Program held their White Coat Ceremony on Friday, October 10, 2008. This annual event marks the transition for students from the classroom to the clinic. The ceremony featured Shannyn Waldron as the keynote speaker who was a member of the class of 2007. She works for Emergency Medicine Solutions, and is currently a PA in the emergency room at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. The Marilyn L. Cohen Award was given to Lauren McCrory. Twenty six members of the class of 2010 ended the ceremony by reciting their Professional Oath.Dr. Joseph F. Stano edited the first edition of Psychology of Disability which was recently published by Aspen Professional Services.
Dr. Joseph F. Stano, professor in the Rehabilitation and Disability Studies department, edited the first edition of Psychology of Disability which was recently published by Aspen Professional Services. This text is written for the undergraduate student and provides an introduction to the key issues of the psychological aspects of disability in treating patients and clients. Two colleagues from Springfield College, Dr. Micheal P. Accordino and Dr. Robert Hewes were contributing authors.Robert Hopkins Returns From 14 days at the Gulf Coast
Robert Hopkins, assistant professor for the Emergency Medical Services Management program and member of the Massachusetts -2 Disaster Medical Assistance Team, has returned from the Gulf Coast where he was deployed for 14 days to assist in response to Hurricane Gustave.Physician Assistant Grads Score 100% Pass Rate
All 2008 graduates of the Springfield College Master’s program in Physician Assistant Studies have passed the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants examination on the first try. According to Jennifer Hixon, outgoing physician assistant department chair, the first-time perfect pass rate is exceptional. The national first-time pass rate usually is in the 87-89% range. This is the second time in three years that the PA graduates have achieved this outstanding success.J. Patrick Decoteau has been appointed to the NIDRR External Evaluation Advisory Board
J. Patrick Decoteau, professor of rehabilitation & disability studies has been appointed to the National Institute on Disability & Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) External Evaluation Advisory Board. Dr. Decoteau joined five other nationally recognized experts at the group’s first meeting held recently at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Alexandria, Virginia, where members provided input into the Institute’s planned 2009 External Evaluation by developing criteria and operational definitions for the External Peer Reviewers who will be rating NIDRR Grantee products. In addition, the advisory board provided input into the Process Evaluation about the Priority Setting Process and its link to NIDRR funding methods. Such efforts are part of NIDRR’s strategic planning process.Springfield College School of Health Sciences and Rehabilitation Studies Introduces New Program in Health Science/General Studies
