Computer and Information Sciences Major

Computer and Information SciencesThe Computer and Information Sciences major offers a solid core of theoretical and applied computer science courses and provides the student with the choice of one of three possible concentrations:
  • Information Systems
  • Software Development
  • Game Programming
Students will find courses in the fundamental principles of computer science and information processing, the study of software and hardware applications, the study of popular commercially used programming languages such as C++, JAVA, PERL, COBOL, the fundamental principles of computer design and computer architecture, web programming including CGI programming, and game programming. There are plenty of hands-on work experiences that can be applied to the real world.

And where will all this hard work get you? Into such high-paying fields as systems analysis, computer programming, web programming, game programming (which has rapidly become a multi-billion dollar per year industry), database management, software engineering, data security, data communications, and management information systems and services. Businesses and other organizations are constantly seaching for skilled computer professionals and the demand is expected to continue to grow. Compared to many professional fields, starting salaries are comparatively high. Nationally, for example, graduates in computer science fields earn some of the highest starting salaries. Job offers come from electrical and electronics manufacturers, computer and business equipment manufacturers, and computer software development companies.

  • Computer Security Specialist- National Reconnaissance Office, Washington, D.C.
  • Most of our graduates in computer science find jobs before graduation
