Clinical Mental Health Counseling

The Clinical Mental Health Counselor (MHC) Program at Springfield College is committed to the preparation of highly qualified professionals interested in licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). The Program is designed to identify the potential and facilitate the development of our students through the integration of theoretical and applied curriculum. In the very first semester, and under close supervision, students have the opportunity to put theory into practice, by developing their professional skills and competencies working with assigned clients. In addition, this 60-credit program incorporates rigorous academic courses, including 100 hours of pre-internship practicum and 600 hours of supervised Internship/Field experience.

There is also course flexibility to allow for other States’ licensing requirements, as well as concentrations in Child and Adolescence and Forensic study (outside of Massachusetts, please review State licensing requirements for mental health counseling). To be successful in our program, the graduate student must be serious about developing their professional skills. It is crucial that you have sound ethical sensitivity to the rights and welfare of others because you will be involved with sensitive and serious human problems during your training. Academic skills are important, but just as important are the maturity and consistent dedication required by our demanding program. If you have strengths in the ability to relate to others effectively, and if you have high ethical standards to develop your potential as a scholar-clinician, then our program will meet your needs. Indeed, we believe that with our current faculty, curriculum, and students, we have one of the top masters level clinical training programs in the country. In conjunction with Springfield College’s Humanics philosophy, the Mental Health Counselor Program educates the whole person in spirit, mind, and body for leadership in service to humanity.
