Psychology
Springfield College remains in the forefront of psychology education by providing their students with faculty, who are broadly trained, practically experienced professionals and are well-prepared and eager to work with their students. As undergraduates, psychology majors explore such areas as child psychology, motivation and learning, abnormal psychology, educational psychology, and interviewing and counseling. The goals of Springfield College’s undergraduate psychology program are to introduce students to the primary areas of importance in psychology and to prepare them for ever-growing career opportunities.
The study of human behavior is of particular importance to people in the service professions. The program in psychology goes beyond that aim, however, in attempting to prepare students for both a practical understanding of people and a theoretical and scholarly appreciation of the problems encountered in the discipline of psychology. In addition to preparing students to enter the workplace, our students receive the pretraining required to enter graduate school in either the science of psychology or one of the applied fields such as guidance, rehabilitation, counseling, clinical psychology, and so forth. To meet this demand our curriculum is designed to acquaint students with the primary areas of importance in psychology.
Students are strongly encouraged to arrange their program in consultation with their academic advisor to be sure that their intellectual and personal needs are met.
