Mathematics Major
The mathematics major offers a traditional program of study in mathematics that may be complemented with an optional teacher certification in secondary education. Mathematicians are in great demand for professional careers in government, business, education, and other industries that demand special expertise. Mathematics at Springfield College will prepare the student for any of the above—as well as for future graduate study— with a solid background in both pure and applied areas of mathematics. There are traditional course offerings and studies such as Calculus I, II, and III, differential equations, mathematical analysis and discrete mathematics. In addition, there are also courses designed to expand your horizons with some "hands-on" applications in computer science and computer programming.
With the help of an academic advisor, the student will develop an appropriate and satisfying course of study, including the courses needed to achieve licensure as a teacher of mathematics at the secondary level.
