Undergraduate Program: Secondary Education

Biology, English, History, Mathematics, (5-8, 8-12)
Visual Art, (Pre K-8, 5-12)


Students seeking teacher licensure in secondary education major in their licensure content area and satisfy the subject matter knowledge requirements through their major. (e.g. art/studio art/art therapy, biology, history, English, math). The program combines eight courses with a full-semester practicum. The academic course load combined with the two pre-practicum and semester long practicum experiences provides ample opportunity for the integration of theory and practice.

All secondary teacher preparation students enroll in Introduction to Education, Teaching Methods for Secondary Teachers, Foundations of Multicultural Education, Pre-Practica, Learning, Teaching, and Technology., and Childhood & Adolescent Development in preparation for meeting the professional standards required for licensure in Massachusetts.

Students are required to complete all general education requirements, a full major in the subject area in which they seek licensure, as well as all required courses in the education program. Students receive dual advisement from the education department and the content area department.
