Brenda Canning

Professor Brenda Canning

Assistant Professor of Business Management and Internship Coordinator
Professor Canning was awarded her M.B.A. from Western New England College and her B.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts. She joined the faculty at Springfield College in 2005 after teaching part-time at several area colleges. Professor Canning brings over twenty years of professional experience to Springfield College, most recently as CFO of Springfield Day Nursery. In addition to teaching, Professor Canning is the Department’s Internship Coordinator. She also provides financial consulting services to area businesses. She has served as Treasurer of the PTO and as a member of the Capital Planning Committee in her town. E-mail



Professor Daniel S. Chrzan

Associate Professor of Business Management
He has his M.B.A. and C.A.G.S. from Western New England College and joined the faculty at Springfield College in 1981. His primary area of teaching responsibility is in Accounting on both the undergraduate and graduate level. He was chair of the Faculty Personnel Committee and has served on many other college committees and task forces. He is currently the department liaison with the Sport Management Major. E-mail




Dr. John J. Doyle

Professor of Economics
Received his doctorate in Economics from Clark University in 1976. He joined the faculty at Springfield College in 1976 and served as department chair from 1991 to 1998. He instructs in the following courses – Managerial Economics I and II, Corporate Social Responsibility, Principles of Macroeconomics, and Principles of Microeconomics. Dr. Doyle has served on many college committees and task forces and is past chair of the Faculty Personnel Committee. Dr. Doyle currently supervises two other academic programs within the department -- (1) an undergraduate program entitled Health Services Administration (HADM); and (2) a graduate academic program entitled Healthcare Management (HMCG). Dr. Robert A. Fiore

Professor of Management
He recently received his D.B.A. from the University of Sarasota. He joined the faculty at Springfield College in 1980 and his teaching area of specialization is Financial Management and Entrepreneurial Activity. He does consulting for area organizations and has several professional publications. Dr. Fiore has served on many college committees and task forces and is past chair of the All-College Committee on Tenure, Promotion, and Sabbaticals. E-mail




Kathryn Heler

Dr. Kathryn Carlson Heler

Associate Professor of Not-for-Profit Business Studies, Director—MBA
Dr. Heler received her MPA from the Maxwell School, Syracuse University and her PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She comes to Springfield College having taught at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Indiana University Northwest and Manchester College in Indiana. She brings to Springfield College a background in nonprofit management, management, strategic planning, and workforce diversity. Her research focuses on capacity building and strategic planning in the nonprofit sector and the history of the nonprofit sector in the United States. Dr. Heler has served on various boards including the North American Management Society, the American Lung Association of Indiana, and Drifting Dunes Girl Scouts Council; and has been a consultant to a number of nonprofit organizations, including the Honeywell Foundation, the Meals on Wheels Association of America, and the Quality of Life Foundation. Dr. Mark Howard

Dr. Mark Howard

Assistant Professor of Economics
Dr. Howard received his doctorate in Economics from the University of Massachusetts in 2007. He joined the faculty at Springfield College in 2008 after teaching at Connecticut College for two years. He instructs in the following courses - Economics of Healthcare, Economics of Sports, Principles of Macroeconomics, and Principles of Microeconomics. In his research, Dr. Howard employs agent-based computational economics in a game theoretic framework, and looks forward to incorporating the same into his teaching here at Springfield College. Dr. Robert N. Lussier

Professor of Management
The first business professor hired at Springfield College back in 1978. He received his doctorate degree in management from the University of New Haven in 1993. Dr. Lussier is currently teaching Principles of Management and Business and Government. He is a prolific writer with more than 290 publications, including empirical research articles and eight textbooks in human relations; management; leadership; entrepreneurship; small business; sport management; business, government and society; and                                          supervision. Professor Joel J. Parrish

Associate Professor of Management
He received his M.B.A. from Western New England College and joined the faculty at Springfield College in 1987. His primary area of teaching is Business Ethics. Professor Parrish is currently the Chair of the Business Administration Department, a position he has held since 1999. Professor Parrish has been on many college committees and task forces and is a past President of the Faculty Senate. E-mail
