Class of '74
Can you feel it? Can you feel the excitement building? The anticipation of those of us who have been back to campus for reunion is so strong; it has got to be tangible.
If you’ve been back to SC for any of the Class of ’74 reunions or for our gatherings at Homecoming, you know what I mean and you’re feeling it too. If you haven’t been back – YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE MISSING!!!
Take my word for it; reunion can be life-changing. It was for me. In 1976, I moved to California and lost touch, I thought, with all things Springfield. Over the years, I kept in contact with one or two friends from those crazy years, but I never went back to campus and I didn’t go out of my way to reach out to anyone. I had moved on.
Then 10 years ago the calls started. First from Michael Patrylo, “Come on, Pam. Come back for our 25th.” Then from Sammy Parker, “Oh you have to come. Let me tell you about our 20th.” That convinced me. I said yes.
Then the e-mails started… from our class “glue” Carol Doyle. Almost daily. Who’s coming. What we have planned. What to bring. I began to really look forward to the trip. Thought it would be fun.
Well, it was more than fun! It was literally life-changing. Reunion was unlike anything else I’ve ever experienced. And I’ve lived a pretty interesting life. It was coming home to a family I didn’t know I missed and loved. I was immediately taken in and accepted as a prodigal sister.
And what fun we had! Carol and Norm had fine-tuned our reunion gatherings to give us as much chance as possible to have fun and have quality time together. Miraculous!
The people and the events were wonderful, but what really astonished me was the realization of just how much a part of who I am was shaped in those four years I spent at Springfield College. Even as a non-jock, anti-establishment art major, my persona was forged by the strength of the spirit, mind and body philosophy and culture of this unique institution.
It was so gratifying to find out how many of my college classmates were contributing members of their communities: teachers, coaches, doctors, school administrators. Proud, I’ll tell you, it made me proud.
I could go on and on and on, but I’ll turn around and look forward now. This coming reunion looks to be one of our best. The tentative schedule for the weekend includes our traditional gathering at Freshman Camp on Friday evening; dinner at Cheney on Saturday with music by Keith’s Who Knows band to follow (along with any classmates so moved to perform), informal gatherings in the lounge on the 8th floor of International. And, there is much, much more.
You must join us! Almost everyone who’s been in the past has already said, “YES!!!!”
Those of you, who haven’t been in person, please know that you’ve been there in spirit. We’ve talked about you and wished you were with us. In fact, you’ll probably start getting “the calls.” Our goal is to have the biggest reunion so far. We also hope to have as close to 100% of our class give back to the Annual Fund as possible. Our support is important. Please do what you can – all gifts count! Give back and come back to celebrate with us.
We want you with us! Believe me, the more the merrier. Join us. Come back and experience it for yourself.
Let Springfield College change your life for a second time.
So hope to see you June 4-7. Please plan to come to part if not to the entire weekend!
Pam
P.S. We realize that times are tough, but this can be one of the least-expensive, most valuable vacations you’ve ever had. We almost all stay in International and many meals are on campus. So room and board are very affordable. If you live on the east coast, you may even be able to carpool with someone to get to Springfield.
A Final Note:
Download our pre-response form to let us know whether or not you plan to attend. This is not your formal registration. It is simply to give us an idea in advance numbers. Please either fax it to the Alumni Office at 413-748-3053 or mail it to the address on the bottom of the form.Look who’s on the Reunion Committee
and you’ll see that you’ll be in VERY good company!
