School Guidance Counseling
The School Guidance program at Springfield College prepares students to work as school guidance counselors in elementary, middle, and high schools. Graduates of the program will have the course and field work necessary to obtain licensing as School Guidance Counselors in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and other states. The School Guidance program is housed within the Department of Psychology, and maintains close links with the Education Department at Springfield College. The program offers a master’s degree and Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS).
Through their courses and fieldwork, students will come to:
- Understand the field of school guidance and the multifaceted roles of school counselors.
- Develop skills to counsel and assess youth.
- Learn to function successfully with students, parents, school personnel, and members of the wider community.
- Learn to serve the needs of diverse students.
One of our program priorities and strengths is the promotion of school counseling for diverse populations.
- The program offers day, evening, and summer courses to accommodate the schedules of working adults. Students are of all ages and backgrounds.
- Entrance into the program is possible at the beginning of the fall, spring, or summer terms. Part-time and full-time study options are available.
