Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- April 7, 2008 – The Springfield College baseball team scored 16 runs on 17 hits and used a complete team effort to down MCLA 16-3 at Berry-Allen field this afternoon in non-conference play.

The win improves the Pride’s record to 8-13 overall, while the Trailblazers drop to 6-9.

Senior Rex Cone (Bristol, Conn.) led the way for the Pride as he was just a homerun shy of hitting for the cycle. Cone batted in four runs and scored two runs himself as he was 5-for-6 at the plate. Sophomore catcher Rob Malaspina (Woodbury, Conn.) also contributed with four hits, which included two doubles and two RBI.

The Pride broke open a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third as it scored another three runs to lead 6-2. After consecutive singles by Cone and senior Ryan Hingston (Windsor, Vt.), MCLA pitcher Sean Kelly threw consecutive walks to junior Ryan Tatreau (Greenfield, Mass.) and senior Tim Romeo (Whitesboro, N.Y.) to plate Cone for the first run of the inning. Malaspina then plated Hingston and Tatreau on a fielding error by the pitcher. Springfield tacked on ten more runs throughout the final six innings to win by a final of 16-3.
