No. 8 Bowdoin Topples Women's Lacrosse, 14-4
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- March 19, 2008 -- The Springfield College women's lacrosse team played a pretty good first half against the nation's No. 8-ranked team, Bowdoin, but ultimately fell to the Polar Bears, 14-4 , this morning in West Palm Beach, Florida.

With the loss, the Pride is now 2-2 in this still very young season. The game was played in very warm, but windy conditions.

"I felt we gave them a good run for a half," said Springfield Head Coach Katie Hawke. "But Bowdoin is an excellent team, and we just couldn't keep up in the second half." It was 5-2, Bowdoin, at the half.

Goal-scorers for Springfield in this contest included sophomore attack Jennifer Zubkus (Dover, N.H.) with two, and grad attack Rachel Lampros (Boxborough, Mass.) and junior attack Heather Dobson (Longmeadow, Mass.) with one each. Freshman midfielder Kaeliegh Lannan (Derry, N.H.) added one assist.

In net, sophomore goalkeeper Lauren McAulay (Yorktown, N.Y.) played well despite giving up 14 goals. She was credited with 22 saves. "She really kept us in the game," said Hawke.

Springfield will play one more contest in West Palm Beach this Friday at 9:00 am against St. Lawrence before coming home. The Pride is 1-1 in games played in Florida thus far.
