Four Women's Soccer Players Earn NEWMAC All-Conference Nods
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., November 7, 2006 - Springfield College sophomores Lauren Peltier (Agawam, Mass.) and Kayla Thibeault (Lebanon, Conn.) have each been named to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s soccer All-Conference First Team, in an announcement made this afternoon at the conclusion of the league’s annual post-season coaches meeting.
In the same announcement, sophomore Nicole Hanewich (Cumberland, R.I.) and freshman Jillian Pereira (East Providence, R.I.) both garnered All-NEWMAC Second Team honors for their play this season.
Peltier, a graduate of Agawam High School and resident of Agawam, Mass., has earned her second straight first-team honors, as the midfielder landed on the first team last year while also being named the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year. This season, Peltier is tied for third on the squad in scoring with four goals and one assist for nine total points of offense. In 14 matches played and started this season, the sophomore has two game-winning scores.
Thibeault, a native of Lebanon, Conn., and transfer from Manhattan College has scored three goals in her first season with the Pride to go along with one assist for a total of seven points. The sophomore defender has started all 17 matches for SC this season.
Hanewich, a graduate of Cumberland High School and resident of Cumberland, R.I., is the Pride’s leading scorer this season with eight goals and two assists for 18 total points of offense. The sophomore forward also has a team-best four game-winners on the year. In the NEWMAC rankings this season, Hanewich finished sixth overall in goals per game (0.47), tied for seventh in goals, ninth in points per game (1.06), and tenth in points.
Pereira, a graduate of East Providence High School and native of East Providence, R.I., has scored two goals to go along with four assists in her rookie campaign from the midfield position. Pereira has played in all but one of SC’s matches this season, while tallying one game-winner on the year.
The Pride women’s soccer team currently stands with a 12-5 overall record on its season after falling in the NEWMAC Tournament semifinals to Smith College at Wheaton. SC has earned a berth into the 2006 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women’s Soccer Tournament as the No. 2 seed and will host No. 7 Fitchburg State College on Wednesday evening, November 8th, in a 7:00 p.m. first-round match-up at Brock-Affleck Field.

Head Coach John Gibson
John Gibson, a native of London, England, enters his ninth season as head women's soccer at Springfield College. Gibson has led the Pride to numerous post-season bids and three trips to the conference championship match, as well as the program’s first Division III national ranking. His clubs have registered an impressive a 94-52-12 record.
